My needs:
My first foray into logitech products was a wireless mouse and the one I have been using is now three years old and working like magic. So when I picked up the current gen ipod touch and needed a dock speaker system to listen to internet radio, I was damned for too many options out there in the market. After all, no other company has spawned so many accessories as had Apple.
I was initially pondering about Altec Lansing( my 2.1 gives great perfomance with my laptop) and bose. The latter was too pricey and the former I wouldn't because I wanted to experience a different brand. After a couple of weeks of scanning ebay and reading a few reviews, I finally zeroed in on Logitech S715i.
The Price, the specs and the initial experience:
At 8000+ it is not exactly cheap (though the usd price is lot cheaper!), but that is a minimum one has to invest for a decent i-dock system that is not marketed in india. The thing that allured me is the eight custom drivers and eight hours of music on a single charge. It supports all ipods and iphones with universal dock connectors. It has a cute little remote, which anyway is just for the heck of it! There is no display which is actually distracting when you are trying to listen in the quiet of the darkened bedroom! And yes there is a travel case which is a bit of a joke because it is more of a carry bag made of poly material and hardly supports the dock system.
The package arrived and I was too excited to put it through the initial full charge. The looks were cute but that was not I bought it for and so I connected the ipod and put on some jazzy hindi songs followed by some latest english hits all in the 128kpbs range. The effect was awesome. The room filling clear sound made me feel as content as a cat with a belly full of milk!!!!
A Month Later:
It has been a month and the first thing I do is to turn on the system and tune into online radios and have a great beginning to my day. I carry it to my kitchen while working there to listen to talk shows though it is located in the hall which fills the entire house with music.
Limitations:
Yes there are limitations compared to other docks. There is no wake up alarm. There is no display. But the additional auxiliary is an advantage. The 8 hour period is not quite there( the led starts blinking way before that warning you of depleting battery) though the music, as mentioned in the company brochure, sounds better and louder with the gadget plugged in which also charges the ipod/iphone.
Conclusion;
I highly recommend this product for people with apple products and for people who love to listen to music on the move...It can be a great party gadget too!
