I had recently traveled over the weekend to bangalore. I used two websites to book tickets for me. I was not very sure of netbooking (the page was not loading properly consistantly) so called up the custome care number of two sites 1: makemytrip.com; 2: Travelguru
I had to take two flights: one from chandigarh to delhi and then delhi to chandigarh:
i search the website and end up looking at the shortest duration trip.
A MDLR airlines connecting CHD-DEL and then DEL-BLR. I decide to call the call center as I wanted to be sure that the price is for the combined flight plan.
The lady at the other end does not inform me of the indigo flight I am looking at. I ask her again, she replies in negative. I say thank you and redial again.
Another lady picks up the call. I tell my travel plans again. She sees the one I am viewing on the net. I ask her to book the tickets. she asks for the credit card number. then the CVV number.
A MS review pops up in my brain. warns me: Dont part it.
i then ask her, what is the security for my CVV number. it is supposed to be secret. she says: sir, we have CCTVs monitoring my actions. I dont have a cell phone with me nor do I have a pen and paper. I directly enter the numbers into the system. I donot see the CVV as I type.
i say: ok.
trusting that she is telling the truth, I part with the CVV number.
The same is the case for Travelguru.com
i have set alerts for any purchase on my credit cards and hence trust the system to warn me (thru messages on cell phone) in case there are any unauthorised purchase.
I have also noted the time/name of all the conversation that I had with the CC executies.
how many of you have parted with your CVV to CC executives of travel websites ??
