Govinda graduated in commerce from Annasaheb Vartak College(Vasai), Maharashtra.

At a very tender age, Govinda became obsessed with dance, after watching the film'Disco Dancer', that had Mithun Chakraborty in the leads.

Govinda made his debut in'Ilzaam' in 1986. The movie featured Neelam, Shatrughan Sinha, Shashi Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Anita Raj in leads.

He gained recognition as a comedy actor playing a mischievous young NCC cadet in the romantic movie'Shola Aur Shabnam'(1992) opposite the late Divya Bharti.
