Every year I wait for Holi....I enjoy not just being with friends, but the most I enjoy having bhang/thandai. It gives me so much joy that I watch some comedy movie and laugh to my hearts content.
I'd promised a guy, a pure bihari who has left everything at his native & come here in search of his bread - that I would entertain him. I asked him to be ready by 10.00 am, but as usual I was late. I asked the Pan Walla, where is the Bihari, he said - Woh kaafi der wait karke chale gaye...I felt bad. I made up my mind to take him somehow. I located his place. Seeing me sprang into action. Within minutes he was ready.
Neatly dressed in his grey colored Safari, he was too formal for Holi. I took him in my bike...from Safilguda to Begum Bazaar. It was a first time experience for him.
I parked my bike and took him to the famous lassi-shop. I could see happiness on our Bihari's face. His face brightened and he asked can I have what ever I want, I said yeah, thats why you are here.
He had two glasses & me 1. I took parcel so that I can have it at home. There were Gulab Jamoons, huge ones, filled with Bhang. Everything seemed costly, the shop wallah just minted money. I started my bike to leave, bihari asked can I have a gulab jamoon. I said go ahead. At that moment his happiness was everything. Seeing him happy, made me happier.
On the way back home, I asked kya bahadur, nasha ho raha ki nahin. He said nahin sahab yeh tho kuch bhi nahin, hamare gaon mein iss se aur nasha kartein hain. I kept quiet.
Later I took him to a hotel, made him have hot hot samosa's, jalebi & chai. He was laughing...and a laughter which didn't seem to stop...I understood, he had the nasha....of Holi...
