I was watching some interviews by Karan Thapar of eminent politicians and powerful people and I have to admit I hate the tone of this man. He will ask a question grinding his teeth, he will only wait for his guest to open his mouth and immediately ask the next question. If he does not like the way his guest is answering, he will force his guest into answering the question the way he wants. Is this journalism ? forget Journalism, is it even Human ? to welcome guests, harrangue them with the sharpest questions, not even let them finish their answer, beat them into submission and when the guest gets flared up, he asks him/her to calm down. His questions are also sometimes absolutely absurd. He is making Jayalalitha accept that she is superstitious, what on earth will he gain from her answer.

Then we have a few others like Barkha Dutt who I started to avoid watching even before the Mumbai incident for which she received criticism, some of her stories are dramatic, why should news be dramatic? Also, why do you show the operation of the soldiers during the Mumbai attacks on TV, won't this compromise their operation? It is a no-brainer to not show the operation live on TV. Peepli live is so true about this whole media rubbish. I also read reports of eminent journalists going after bloggers who wrote wrong about them. There is a difference between journalism and blogging, blogging is about personal views and every blogger has a right to express his/her views - freedom of expression. What would happen if celebrities go after every single reporter for defaming them?

The hindi news channels are even worse, they are senseless with the way they torment the celebrities by provoking them. For exmaple: Even today journalists ask Amitabh ji about Rekha, and all they want is to see the greatest actor of India lose his cool so that they can sell their story. Doesn't Amitabh Bachchan or Rekha ji deserve more respect? Same with Salman Khan, no matter what he has been into, there is a judiciary system to handle that, he has improved himself and people love him, why then do the reporters provoke him into turning violent? We already have Bollywood to entertain us, why are the news channels competing for this title?

Take the BBC news for example - They maintain that the BBC is a always a spectator, the reporters are so well trained that they do not bring their own emotions, dramatization, exaggeration and provocation into their stories. What we hear are the views of the people interviewed and what we see is the truth. This is no rocket science, just provide the viewers with the facts and the views of the people interviewed, and let the viewers draw their own conclusion. The press council should strictly govern journalism and also penalise un-ethical journalism, it should not turn into sheer entertainment and journalists should not abuse their position to cross limits, if they are kept at check and rewarded for positive attitude and neutral accounts, then we can expect to be informed instead of entertained.
