[Spoilers ahead]
Today I watched 'Jab we met'. There was a song in the film that goes 'aaoge jab tum saajna, angna phool khilenge', music given by Sandesh Shandilya, lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Faiz Anwar and sung by Ustad Rashid Khan. The song showed two time portions. One where Kareena is left alone by her boyfriend and how she manages her situation and second where Shahid comes, observes her from a distance and realizes how a wonderful smiling soul has turned into a sad, reality stricken person. In this portion, Shahid's reactions are also caught in the film. This portion was where I had my eyes wetter than usual and later I was wondering why. I think it happened because of two reasons.
One was the effect of the song itself. I have loved this song a lot. So much that it can go down as one of my favorite (100) songs. Although I still can't relate all the lyrics in the song to the scene in the film but I realize how its 'feel' was so perfectly suited for the situation.
Second was the position and reactions of Shahid in that particular situation. I can't remember how many times I have similarly felt sad when I have seen someone transform from a happy good soul to a sad good soul because of the cruelties of life. When I have known the person is of the kind who makes this world a lovable place and who would never hurt anyone even in jest. When I couldn't do anything about their situation, felt angry with myself and wondered why God lets such people suffer. It was, I think, on that level I related to the song and situation so much that it bought me to tears.
(And that's one of the beautiful facets of cinema - Its relatable at the most unexpected moments}
PS : I loved the film.
