Laws of attraction - does it really work?
Well, experienced this. Well, may be.
Anish was supposed to meet me at 14:15 that day. I did not receive a call from him till 14:25 and so, I called him up. He apologized saying he left late as he got caught up in some last minute office work and then he mentioned that there was an accident on the Aarey road flyover just before the Oberoi flyover [if you’re travelling from Churchgate]. This was the 1st instance where Anish mentioned of the accident. Before ending the call he said he would reach in 10 minutes. However, he dint. He met me at 15:15 and the he again apologized for making me wait and mentioned the Aarey road flyover accident in detail and said how dangerous that flyover is. This was the 2nd time that Anish mentioned of the road accident.
I know Anish well over 5 years now & in these years I have heard him mentioning the dangers of that particular flyover and many others. Anish has this theory - He believes, some roads demand blood. I never really understood what Anish actually meant but I believed him blindly'cause he's been driving to & fro on that Flyover for more than 6 years now. That kind of driving experience on Mumbai roads makes you blindly trust anyone. And, I recall Anish mentioning the dreadful Aarey-road flyover as the road with highest number of road accidents than any other flyover. He believes the Aarey-road flyover to be cursed.
We met again that night around 21:00 and we had to go to Andheri to deliver Jasroop's courier to Shruti Couriers. This time, Jasroop was driving. He always does this. He likes to drive and never lets anyone else drive unless he's exhausted. So, we left towards Andheri and we crossed the Oberoi flyover. As we were approaching the Aarey-road flyover, Anish mentioned of the accident to Jasroop and Ajit, who was sitting at the back with me, and warned Jasroop to drive carefully and stay away from the fast lane. This was the 3rd instance. Jasroop took heed of Anish's words and stayed on the left. While crossing the flyover we were distracted by a rash driving Innova next to us. However, Jasroop kept his cool and got us to the other side. We got our work done at Shruti Couriers and started on our way back.
Jasroop was driving. As we took a left towards the highway, Jasroop's cell phone buzzed and the kind of person that Jasroop is, he had to take out his phone and check the message as if the world would end if did not revert immediately. He kept on driving and replying to a particular message till we reached almost the brink of the highway. We called Jasroop by some adjectives and asked him to stop the car and complete texting first and then start driving. Jasroop kept his phone down and concentrated on driving.
We were almost reaching the dreadful Aarey-road flyover and I asked Jasroop to change the Radio channel to 98.3. The song brought out the kid in Jasroop and he started playing tabla on the steering [even Zakir Hussain would not be able to play the tabla so well on the steering], as usual, and climbed the Aare-road flyover and moved onto the fast lane. Anish warned Jasroop again to be careful on this flyover as it's cursed. This was the 4th time.
. screeeeeech. THUD. A Honda City rammed into us from behind. The thud got all of our's adrenaline pumping and within a fraction of the next second we were out of the car. Each of us with a same intention of beating the living crap of the Honda City driver. We got out and saw another Swift has rammed onto the Honda City and there was another I-10 standing marginally close to the Swift. We realized what had happened. A white Swift which was ahead of us applied emergency brakes and so had Jasroop. And the kind of driving skills that Jasroop has, we dint even touch the Swift. But, the City driver, I suppose, dint have that kind of skills and rammed into us. The anger that we had all had melted within seconds of realizing that it was no one's fault, actually. All the driver of the 3 cars looked at each other with despair and moved on.
Now, did Anish put Rhonda Byrne's theory of Laws of Attraction to work by mentioning of the accident over and over again? Or, was it just co-incidence?
The car's bumper was taken care of and the car looked as good as new within 4-5 days. But, I wonder, did Anish sleep that night.
