So read the newspapers in morning or watch evening news on TV, you will get at least one news daily of honour killing. This honour killing has changed the definition or equations in the term that is called relationship. Mother killed the daughter; Father and uncle strangled the couple to death, family members hanged the daughter and then said that it is suicide. Everyday there are many news like that, In Delhi alone there are six cases of honour killing were reported last week. And these are those cases, which were registered by police; there would be many cases, which were still unreported.
An honor killing is the murder of a family member by one or more fellow family members, where the murderers (and potentially the wider community) believe the victim to have brought dishonour upon the family, clan, or community. This perceived dishonor is normally because of wanting out of an arranged marriage or choosing to marry by own choice engaging in certain sexual acts. These killings result from the perception that defense of honor justifies killing a person whose behavior dishonors their clan or family.
This is not a new concept and this brutality was perinial in orthodox societies, but in this modern ages when we speak about civil society and scientific revolutions, this kind of brutality and mentality must be rejected and come under the strict action of law. Most of this kind of acts are generally supported by the group and a section (however small it is) of society. Few days back , after an incident of the murder of a couple in Delhi, One of the uncle of the murderer shamelessly said in front of media that whatever he (the murderer) did he fully supported it and it would give a message so other girls or boys would not indulge in this kind of dishonour to their family and cast.
The question is that does not our law guarantees an Individual the right to love or right to marriage. Should a person (male or female ) look for the caste, gautra, family, and many orthodoxy before fall in love or to marry. Are be really civilised , in this age of globalisation is our mind really free from the religious and caste based bigotry. To whom we fear more law or society. And finally do we have the right to love…………
