Sonia’s (MS id: nonuest) post ‘Culture Shulture’ set me out and this is not a response to her post...just my process of introspection and vacillation.
Balance and checks is what keeps any society on the straight course.
In a developing and progressive society, you need the lefts and the rights. Today, most of our country is not against the freedom to celebrate, but fears over-indulgence and stepping over.
The West leaned on to absolute freedom to result in loss of moral values. Now, one may argue that the values they have arrived at are their moral values. And being in a single global village should be right for us too.
But we need to understand, did our social revolution start at the same time as theirs? Are we missing out any generations in between? Was our social fabric and the milieu mindset the same as theirs to begin with?
We have a deep-rooted culture we pride on. Should we reject or compromise that just for a few moments of indulgence? Are these few moments really going to add any value to our lives, our dignity, our pride, to our intellect, to our self esteem?
If this spirit of freedom is let on its own course can we predict where it will lead? Don’t we in our individual issues apply balance and controls to check our independent path? If so, then could all these so called moral police be the social checks? The society in its run will accept what is right and reject what is not.
For a constructive and a strong society to emerge, can this considered as the tempering process? And what might come out could be glittering gold???
I don’t know…it may not or may be!!!
