Onam - A Festival like no other
National Festival of Kerala
It is the occasion where the state springs to life. Onam, a festival that lasts for a period of 10 days is no less than the national festival of Kerala and is celebrated fondly by Malayalees across the globe. Celebrated in Chingam, the very first Malayalam month, Onam marks the harvest season of Kerala.
Significance of Onam
Onam is that time of the year, when King Mahabali comes down to the Earth to visit his subjects.
Malayalees welcome the King with utmost pride by putting Pookkalams(Flower Carpets), making Grand Feasts(Onasadhya) etc.
This homecoming of the King is extremely special as it occurs only once in a year.
The 10 day period is also considered as a throwback to those good old times, when people lived in complete harmony.
