15th August is a very special day for majority of Indians as we do get a holiday on that day. Yes such has been the importance of this crucial day in our life, for us holiday is more important than what the day actually means to us. Some people do work on 15th August also, people who work in US process especially call centres employees.
Still remember oldern days when I was schooling, we used to go school early morning, and there used to be a flag hoisting ceremony with the principal of the school hoisting the flag and the tri color flag distributed to every person with pins and very happily and proudly every student used to put on the flag and flaunt being an Indian.
Then I used to attend flag hoisting ceremony in my colony and the person whom I used to hate the most in the colony used to hoist the flag. He had huge mustaches and villainous looks, wondered why people used to give him so much importance. But for me he was a villain and there were no doubts about that. The villain used to hoist flag and then chocolates used to be distributed to everyone.
On returning home my mom dad used to watch movies which were telecasted on tv and all of them were either on patriotism or independence. Movies like Tirangaa, Karma etc were telecasted on famous hindi movie channel. Entire day one would find all such type of movies be it how many ever channels one changes.
At my place there used to be traditional lunch and some special sweet dish made out of banana plant leaf. It was said so that we became independent and so there had to be one dish which was to be prepared that would make us feel that we were independent.
But around 66 years of independence we have forgotten all of this manners, cultures our parents gave us. There are many people who still celebrate this day on a very high note wishing and greeting others, sharing sweets among each other but still there are many who need to be taught the importance of this day.
IF THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL PRESENCE OF THIS DAY 66 YEARS AGO THEN WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TREATED AS A SLAVE TILL DATE, BUT WE ARE INDEPENDENT AND FREE NOW.
Such is the importance of this day.
Nowadays once 15th August passes by we can see small small tri color flags fallen down besides the road or thrown in the garbage. Take a moment or two to safeguard the lost integrity and hoist the flag in a descent place if not take along with you but just don't let it be fallen there itself.
Still wish those oldern days come back, morning school, after school my compound flag hoisting and then the movies and to top it all tasty yummy sweet dish made out of banana leaf.
Happy Independence day to one and all!!!! Proud to be an INDIAN.
