The Indian auto giant, Tata Motors has launched Tata Safari Storme and with this the long impatient wait comes to an end. The SUV segment, which is also the most emerging car segment in the country, has already had some marvellous vehicles and the all new Storme has only increased the level of competition in the already jam-packed segment. With a base price of Rs. 9.95 lakh and potent and proven 2.2-litre, 16-valve, DOHC, VTT VariCOR engine, Safari Storme is all-ready to cater number of potential buyers. The all new Safari Storme produces the maximum of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque with the five-speed manual gearbox. The mileage of the new Safari Storme has however not been increased, the two-wheel drive (2WD) option returns an impressive 14kmpl, while the 4wd offers 13.2kmpl.

What makes the Safari Storme different and advanced than its competitors is the four-wheel drive system offered with the top-end variant, which has the electronic-shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) mechanism that enables a driver to shift from 2WD to 4WD or vice-versa on the go. Amidst all the speculations about its launch, Tata Motors dealers have started taking the pre-orders for the all new Safari, which gives us an idea that the launch might happen any time soon now, most possibly in the first half of October when the Navratras would start.

Tata Safari Storme Vs Competition :

1.Tata Safari Storme Vs Renault Duster

Most of you were thinking that it will be Scorpio that is going to be closest competitor of the Storme but it is not like that the season’s flavour, Renault Duster is a bigger competitor for Safari at the moment. The Duster is being sold as hot cakes now-a-days and it will be very difficult for Tata Motors to make a way for the Safari Storme. The Duster beats Storme when it comes to the pricing, the Duster comes with two different power options; Duster 85 PS and Duster 110 PS. If we compare it from 85 PS variant, the Duster has the competitive edge as it is available at a price of Rs. 8.39 lakh and Duster 110 PS is available at Rs. 10.39 lakh.

Pricing wise the 85 PS version of Duster is least expensive, but 110 PS, which is actually the key competitor of the Storme is costlier in comparison. The power output and 4WD makes the Storme ‘The Real SUV’ and the Duster lacks here, as it doesn’t have enough power output and 4-wheel drive option. However, Renault Duster which is basically a compact SUV has been developed for urban driving purpose and it is doing its duty pretty well, thanks to its compact dimensions and high mileage figures; 20.46 kmpl for 85 PS variant and 19kmpl for 110 PS variant. So, if you are looking for a SUV for off-roading purpose than the Storme is your vehicles as it has rigid and robust nature and if you are looking for a SUV, with that you can sail over city roads then Duster must be your pick as it has higher mileage and compact dimensions., else Storme is a more powerful machine.

2.Tata Safari Storme Vs Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio is doing well in the market since its inception and it is also a big competitor for the all new Tata Safari Storme. However, we are not going to compare it with the base variants of Scorpio as the existing Safari falls into that range. Mahindra Scorpio VLX is the right variant to be considered as a competitor of Safari Storme. The price of Scorpio SLX starts from Rs. 10.64 lakh and it has almost all the features same as Storme.

If we talk about engine, Safari Storme and Scorpio both have a 2.2-litre engine; however Safari Storme cranks out more power than the Scorpio, while mileage wise both the Safari Storme and Mahindra Scorpio stand almost at same position. Both the Safari Storme and Mahindra Scorpio VLX available with 4WD option but electronic-shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) makes the Storme a better option, on the other hand Scorpio VLX also comes with automatic transmission (AT), which Safari Storme misses out. On the whole, Safari Storme looks a strong contender as it has revised styling and more advanced features than the Scorpio at the moment. Moreover the Storme has better ride, handling and lesser body roll than the Scorpio, even the high speed stability is better with the Storme.

3.Tata Safari Storme Vs Force One

Force One, which has been recently launched in BSIV complaint variants, is also doing well in the markets and falling into the same price range, so it is also a possible competitor of the Storme. The Force One's prices start from Rs. 11.18 lakh, which makes it very costlier than the Storme. But it scores more when it comes to the mileage; it offers an impressive mileage of 17.0kmpl, which is higher than Storme’s 14.0 Kmpl.

At the moment Force One has been offered only in 2WD option, thus the all new Storme gets an advantage here. Looks wise both the cars scores equal marks but when it comes to drivability and off-roading capabilities again Storme scores more. The Storme also has better driving dynamics than the Force One.
