Over the past few days my hard drive began to make an odd "click" noise from time to time. It's the same noise the hard drive made when it parked the head so it wasn't fear inducing. I did take a moment to back up a few things. This morning the laptop proceeded to make the clicking noise over...and over... and then it failed to boot. So I lost two articless, at least the "VotH" revisions of them. They are not gone though. I have versions on the web site of one. And the other...well, I submitted it to a magazine, had a conversation with the editor, and I'm awaiting vetting by professionals. So it isn't lost either but I can't publish it anywhere else until we have agreed on a run date (or agreed that it doesn't pass grade, in which case, you can look for it in the usual places shortly). I have backups of most things but it's amazing what you find you missed. Sigh.
And the laptop? I took another SATA laptop (from another brand of laptop) and plugged it in. Windows spent a bit thinking and then re-installed all the new drivers and away we went. Back in business, mostly.
