Three cheers to drivers!

I think after the dabawallahs, who have made the impossible happen in Mumbai, I would like to mention the taxi and auto drivers of Mumbai. I think they are the most efficient drivers and most of them know Mumbai inside out. They know all the short cuts, and you can depend on them at most unearthly hours, to drop you back home safely.

Most of the drivers keep their cool under the most trying circumstances. This is an achievement in itself. They’re level headed, grounded and do their job well. Really, if it wasn’t for these people, Mumbai would definitely not be the best place to live. Take Delhi for example, I have heard that the drivers there are obnoxious, but thanks to the drivers in Mumbai, life is a little less hellish!

Now, with the advent of Meru and Mega, things seemed to have improved, and it makes a lot of economic and green sense to travel by public transport instead of buying a huge vehicle for each member of the family! Seriously, I wonder how people can indulge so shamelessly, when the majority of our population doesn’t even have two square meals a day! Talk about conscience!

Yes, the taxi drivers toil the whole day, sometimes the whole night, deal with traffic, cruel traffic control police, demented roads and come up winners! If it wasn’t for these taxi drivers, people would not be able to reach anywhere in Mumbai.

I remember the day when there was a flood in Mumbai, my hero, an autodriver, drove me all the way from Thane to Sion, as fast as he could. Although I got stuck in Parel till midnight, had it not been for the autodriver, I would’ve been stuck somewhere at Thane or Mulund, not knowing the area at all!!

We should really be thankful to these drivers for their efficient services and quick responses.
