Family Guy: In the past 10 odd years cartoons have taken a very different role and Family Guy is one such series which caters solely to an adult audience, the jokes, the situations and the humor developed from spoofs and insults of the pop culture can and should only be viewed by an adult audience. The show is very well written, it circles around a dysfunctional family led by Peter Griffin. The show’s creator is Seth Macfarlane (he hosted the Oscars in 2013), he is also the voice artist for most of the characters in the show. Family Guy still is one of the most watches sitcoms on TV.

South Park: South Park aired as a cut-paper animation developed by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The video was put on the internet and it went viral. The response was so incredible that South Park turned into a TV series. Similar to Family Guy, South Park has a lot of dark humor and adult situations. The jokes can be disgusting at times too however the laughter supersedes everything else. The amazing thing about the series is that each episode is conceived, animated, edited and sent for presentation within a time frame of 6 days.

Tom & Jerry: I have been saving this for the very end of my list for one reason alone: The Tom & Jerry show is my favorite cartoon show of all time. While Disney ruled the big screen, the cat and mouse game was there to stay on the small screen for a very long time. My first memory of Tom and Jerry was a video I watched when my father rented a VCR for a day and of course the small room was house full as our neighbors and theirs kids were in full attendance. The original series produced by Fred Quimby and directed by Hanna-Barbara is gold, never before and never since has there been so much detail in the art work involved in a short TV film. The drawings of a typical American household, the chase scenes where unexpected things happen, the wonderfully well conceived script with little to no words exchanged is legendary. There have been several attempts at re-inventing the series but the bottom line is – you can’t re-invent the wheel.

The world of cartoons is as tall as Everest and as deep as the pacific, so I could include only a miniscule of cartoons in this post. I would have loved to include many more characters however I have a small quiz for you:
