The wholesale prices has gone down to Rs 12 per kg in Mumbai. On Thursday, onion was being sold at Rs 18-20 per kg at the Jadhavwadi wholesale market. The Customers are still getting it at Rs 14 per kg.


The Suppliers dumped more than 50 tonnes in the market spiking the supply by 10-15% "Supply has gone up and it has started impacting the prices. Till now, the market used to see arrival of 40-45 tonnes of onions every day," said an Onion supplier.


"Nearly 60% of the total quantity has been supplied by the farmers from Paithan, Gangapur, Vaijapur and Kannad. These villages are located 50-65 km from the city. Rest of the onions have arrived from Godhegaon, Rahuri(both in Ahmednagar district) and Lasalgaon in Nashik district," he said.


At Lasalgaon, Onions arrived at a slightly lesser priice. Farmers from nearby places bring crop in large quantities and prices started falling. The prices will dip further in the next 10-15 months.


The market has been bullish since Thursday, and as the wholesale market remains closed on Fridays, the whole salers had purchased stock for 2-3 days.
