Long ago, much before the motor car was invented, human beings used only their limbs to move around. Messages too were carried by runners from one village to another. At that time it was not necessary for living beings including humans to do physical exercise to remain fit, it was natural. All living creatures continue to do so, except humans. The day man invented the wheel, ailments and disorders came along.
With modern technology man has forgotten the importance of the natural physical movements which is the cause for disorders. Due to lack of exercise there is no blood circulation and prana is blocked from reaching vital parts of the body and energy centers.
There was a time in ancient China when a great emperor ruled. He observed people living beside rivers and people living beside lakes. He noticed the people on the river side were healthy and many living beside the lakes were sick and unhealthy. He realized the reason behind their health condition was to do with the running water in the rivers and the stagnated water in the lake. He not only advised his people about this but also compared this with the human body, explaining without exercise the blood stays stagnated and the body is prone to diseases, where as with regular exercise the blood is purified, the immune system is strengthened and the body can sustain and maintain a healthy state. Physicians were appointed in every province with a regular salary to advice and to maintain people’s health and well being. When a person fell ill the physician’s salary was suspended and the medical expenses too had to be borne by him until the patient recovered.
In today’s life most of us are either in front of a TV or the computer. As living beings it is very important to have a healthy body and a sound mind in order to evolve. We need to address both to lead a healthy life on this planet. There are so many options for us to experiment in the fitness field. As parents and adults we should set an example to the younger generation on how to take care of our health, addressing both the body as well as the mind. There are 3 Golden rules for all as a guide line and if one follows these rules most of the health problems will be addressed:
We need nourishment, so a balanced diet is important and enough time should be set aside for consuming the food / fluid and time for digestion.
We need rest, so 6 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is required for the body and mind to regain the lost energies.
- We need to exercise, to throw out the toxins from our system, to purify the blood and to improve our breathing / posture and most important to open up blocked areas in our system to allow prana to circulate and revitalize and rejuvenate us. .
If one can follow these simple rules we will see an overall good health for all of us on this planet. Rule 1 and 2 is common for all. Rule 3 could be a choice of our own, eg: jogging / walking / swimming /Yoga/ cycling, outdoor games, martial arts etc.
