The trouble with college is that you are expected to know such a lot of things youve never learned. Its very embarrassing at times. But now, when the girls talk about things that I never heard of, I just keep still and look them up in the encyclopedia.

Jerusha dislikes her trustee’s name because how can one be respectful to a person who wishes to call himself Mr. John Smith ? She wonders why couldn’t he choose a name with a little personality.

The story is told in letter form written by an orphan, Jerusha, or Judy as she wants to be known, who at the start of the story is 17 years old. Judy’s letters over the course of her four years at college are delightful.

What did she promise at the end of her letter? Letter 15
Judy confesses to failing her mathematics and Latin prose exams… but of course, she promises him she will work hard to rectify her failure which she does. The thought of Judy continuing to call him ‘Daddy’ after the big reveal made me feel even more uneasy.
What was the girl sure of after she received the present?
I loved Daddy Long Legs because I love letters. Jean Webster wrote Daddy Long Legs as a collection of letters. Jerusha changes her name to Judy, and sends the letters faithfully. She addresses them to “Daddy-Long-Legs”. Daddy-Long-Legs proves to be a very capable guardian, sending Judy gifts based on the stories in her letters, care packages for trips, and items she’ll need to keep up with her new classmates.
What did the white box contain? Whose present was it? Why did the girl cry?
