Now coming back to the review.
Why I watched the movie :
Like many MBA aspirants I gave XAT 2006 ... one hell of a paper !! I think many of you might agree with that..... really messed it up and had nothing better to do ... so decided will go and watch a movie.
Went to PVR spice world and got to know that the only decent movie on is 15 Park Avenue and that only first row tickets are available.... was surprised to know that we really have so much of audience for an off beat movie??
Surely as an audience we are definitely improving !!
Any ways.. bought the tickets as I always knew Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen would be a safe bet.
Th movie starts with a thrilling music score ... immediately came to know its not a cool movie like Mumbai Matinee .... more on the lines of Mr and Mrs Iyer.
The movie starts with Mithi Konkona Sen directing her elder sis Anu Shabana Azmi to some 15 Park Avenue where some guy named JoJo lives.
Immediately you come to know that there is something abnormal about Mithi.
She is mentally unwell and is searching for a US street in Kolkotta.
On the lines of Maine Gandhi ko Nahin Mara ... we have 15 Park Avenue. In the former we search for Gandhi in the latter we search for Park Avenue.
Then the story moves on .. slow at times, but keeps you in the worl of Mithali and her sister Anu who has a boyfriend Sanjeev - kanwaljeet
20 minutes into the movie you come to know that Mithali in schizophrenic ( I hope I got the spelling right). Snajeev wamts to marry Anu but she cant coz of Mithali. Sanjeev is obviuosly pissed off but still loves Anu and tries his best to help her in this sitiuation.
Mean while Mithali thinks she is married to JoJo Rahul Bose and has 5 kids. Jojo actually was engaged to her and didnot marry her as she was raped when on a reporting assignment near dhanbad.
He is now married to some Shifalli Shah and has two kids.
Mithali is looked after by a doctor who develops a chemistry with Anu.
The Characters .. each of which is very strong and is well potrayed by the actors. Rahul Bose is excellent. Konkona sen is good as Mithali. Shabhana Aazmi is a litlle over dominant.
The direction is good and the movie goes along well.
The one point where the movie fails to do is mantain a harmonybetween its character. At any point in the movie you always see that suddenly one character dominates the other and more often it is Shabhan Aazmi who dominates the procedings. Some how the script fails to carry forward all the characters together. They move forward one by one.
Rahul Boses entry was a little late and could have come earlier. The end was a bit unexpected but refreshing. Actually there was no end at all. The movie ended at a turning point.
Overall a good movie... but I think Maine Gandhi .... was much better. Each character moved in harmony with the rest. This is just one point that will make you dissapoint after you move out of the hall.
