''28 Days'' SEEMED LIKE 28 Hours!

“28 Days”- PG-13

New to video, I was anticipating watching the film “28 Days.” Much to my dismay, the movie did not meet the expectations I had set up for it. The movie starts with flashes of a party. Gwen Cummings (Sandra Bullock) is drunk. They are trying to portray her as a wild party girl, and they do so.

She wakes the next morning late for her sister, Lilly’s (Elizabeth Perkins) wedding. Gwen ruins the event by falling into the cake, breaking a chandelier and leaving the wedding in the Bride and Groom’s limo. She crashes it into a house and gets a ‘driving while intoxicated.’ This leads to the 28 days of rehab.

The rehab has a set of strange rules, such as chanting and singing. They can’t have caffeine or any other substance. Gwen goes through her withdrawals with a bunch of very odd patients.

The movie spends too much time on nothing. It’s not a funny movie, not a drama, just not much of anything. I did get teary eyed once or twice, but that is the only emotion I felt. Steve Buscemi plays the counselor and his role isn’t touched upon enough. Such a brilliant actor in such a small role is a waste. At the end of the movie, you find yourself asking, “Well, what happened?”

It wasn’t all bad. The film did hit upon the topics of knowing when you need help and overcoming addictions. For a rental the movie is worth it, but for the $8.00 in the theaters, I think I would have asked for a refund. Not Sandra Bullocks best work. Remember, it’s just my opinion!

Enjoy!
