Hmmm! Tough one. Specially because I do not follow any specific pattern while reading and believe that a good book is a good book whether it is fiction or non-fiction.
Here is my list:
- Jonathon Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
My first reaction after reading the book was- Wow! Irrespective of your age, nationality or outlook, you will enjoy this journey of spirit towards freedom. It also reminds me of vedantic concept of unification of atman with brahman. Do spare some time for the breathtaking photographs.
- The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery
It brought tears to my eyes though I am not known to be sentimental. Takes one back to innocent childhood and shows us our most valuable possessions. Simple yet profound.
- To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
An individuals battle against the system told through the eye of a child. What you should do when you know that you are fighting a just battle but for a lost cause? Fight on because may be you will lose this one but somebody, someday will take the batton from your hand and win the war.
- Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
In the world full of insane people hell bent on destroying each other, one single man tries his best to maintain his sanity. Hillarious yet ironic - one of the greatest anti war tale ever told.
- Freedom at Midnight by Dominique Lapier & Larry Collins
At the stroke of midnight, horror descended on the sacred land. The Government does not have the resources to contain such a fury. The Half Naked Fakir showed the world once again that love will always overcome hatred. If only the world would hear him!
Of course there are many more but I feel five is a good number to stop.
