Watched this movie this weekend and I simply loved it. This is a romantic comedy and after such a long time I have seen such a good romantic comedy. The duration of the movie is about 1 1/2 hrs and the pace of the movie is just right with bit of gags and emotion here and there.
The main characters of the film are Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) and Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore). Henry is a vet and works in some zoo with lots of sea animals. He is kind of guy who has commitment problems and dates with different woman and has his unique ways of escaping.
On the other hand Lucy is a girl who had a car accident a year ago and is suffering from short term memory loss problem that means every day when she goes to sleep she forgets everything which happened during the day and wakes up thinking that each day is October 14, her father’s birthday. Although she can remember the incidents before the accident she has no idea what has happened after 14 October.
The story goes like this : This guy Henry sees Lucy and fell in love with her. While Lucy has her memory problem so she can not remember if she ever met Henry. So daily Henry plays some trick (nautanki) to get her attention and make her fall in love again and again and that too not once or twice but fifty times. Isn’t it interesting :-). All the scenes involving these flirting are very interesting and enjoyable. Initially Lucy’s father and brother opposes Henry but later they accepts him and Henry started dating Lucy.
Finally one day the suspense brakes and Lucy got to know that it is not 14 October but some other day, after a lot of crying and heart breaking she went to sleep only to forget again what happened. But not this time , Henry and Lucy’s family helped her to remember all the things she had missed ... the whole year ... and do it everyday.
After this Henry keeps dating Lucy without knowing the future of the relationship until one day ...when Lucy came to break up with him (???)..did she remembered him? .... nope she simply maintained a diary of what happened on the successive days. What happened next ?? Did they ever meet again ? Did they get back together ... that I am leaving for u guys to find out.
The movie has a lot to watch out for ... all the ways in which Henry tries to woo Lucy, Henry’s friend Ula who is funny and loves shark, the big walrus who is a friend of Henry, 10 second tom, Henry’s veterinary assistant, Lucy’s brother and his chest dance, the big fat coffee house cook, and of course Drew Barrymore (she looked gorgeous in beach scene),
About the title ... though it is very much different from Notting Hill but I liked it as much as I liked Notting Hill. This should give some idea to all of you.
...Finally I would give a four out of five to this movie. Though we could find some loopholes in the plot itself but I they are not worhty enough to look. This movie is a must watch for all those who like love stories and is a feel-good movie. So dont wait .. watch and enjoy it. Have a fun filled watching.
