Eminem the biggest name in the rap industry came out with great songs and to add to them a great movie to.we usually think that all these people got in easy into the rap industry because the might have grown up in a not really well off home but a home which provided the basic needs.the movie shows a different side to attaining fame and fortune.it shows how people from the darkest ghettos in the U.S.A come out and try to make a living or make it big with the talents they have.the movie also shows the break of the colour barrier in the rap industry.
THE CAST-
Jimmy Smith Jr-Marshall Mathers A.K.A Eminem(he is called by the nick name Rabbit in the movie)
his mother-played by Kim Basinger
Cheddar Bob-Evan Jones
Future-Mekhi Phifer
Alex-Brittany Murphy
THE MOVIE-
the movie is basically about a struggling rapper who tries to break the colour barrier by making it into the rap industry with his talent.Jimmy Smith played by eminem is found in a night club restroom practicing for a rap battle that is going to take place in the club.in this battle two people rap in turns basically trying to humiliate the other.Jimmy Smiths turn comes up but when the Dj starts scratching his records Jimmy chokes on his words, looks more like stage fright.
Embarrased and humiliated Jimmy makes his way out of the club.from then we find out that his life is one big mess.he had left his old girlfriend to try and pursue a career.no place to go he makes his way to his mothers house.his mother is basically a person living on welfare and earns money by playing bingo and picking up guys for money.there he finds his mother with a man as old as him.from now the house is covered with fights until he finds out that his mother is being evicted.thats when the man his mother is seeing leaves her, stuck with no money and in danger of being tossed onto the road Jimmy takes up a job at a local plant which makes car parts and works overtime.meanwhile his little sister at home who is probably 10 years old witnesses every battle , good times and bad times in that house.both jimmy and his little sister look out for each other through the entire story.
Back at the night club the host for the battles is a personal friend of Jimmy not to mention a bigger gang too.his friends know that he has talent and look out for opportunities to make Jimmys life a little better.they believe in him and faith in him.even though there are squabbles between them too friends are friends.meanwhile there is rival gang going around town out of which one of them is the most dominant one at the rap battles and he goes by the name papa dog.Jimmy has to take them on in the end to defend his honour after being kicked around and abused by them.during the story Jimmy falls in love with Alex but then later finds out that she was just two timing him.coming closer to the end of the story jimmy who was intially scared of papa dog take him on in the end and yes he eventually wins.
PERFORMANCES-
i did have doubts with Eminem being able to act.but he pulled it off really well to put on a great performance which was very convincing.every actor fit just right into their roles and stuck to them beautifully.
the performances to look out for are closer to the end during the final rap battle.each song is thought up on the spot by every rapper on stage.that was just beautiful and amazing.these people are geniuses to come up with stuff like that on the spur of the moment.the songs were great and very entertaining.
MY THOUGHTS-
the movie was great to watch and very interesting.it showed the life of a struggling rapper who made it through bad time outside and at home to become recognized in the end for his hard work and god given talent.unlike most movies which would just give you an outline to a person making it to a career in music this movies goes in depth into every aspect of that persons life.
i wouldnt recommend the movie for people below the age of 18.bad language is thrown about everywhere and explicit scenes are visible directly.so if you plan to watch it with you under aged kid choose another movie and wait till he or she grows older.
