Ever felt like not wanting a book to end?
This is that book for me. Ever felt like buying a book after having borrowed and read it? This is that book for me. ever felt a book wallop you with its tidal twist that you have to put it down and reel from the blow? This is that book for me. ever felt a strange mixture of intense joy and sorrow reading a book? This is that book for me. ever felt like not wanting to read any other book after reading a book? This is that book for me.
Forgive my gushing enthusiasm but I am writing this review soon after reading the last page of a prayer for owen meany.
I am still getting the occasional lump in my throat. the book, especially owen meany is nothing less than luminous. the book itself is the story of owen meany and johnny wheelwright from the time they were boys. narrated by john, the book begins a little before owen unexpectedly hits a baseball so hard that it drops his best friend johns mother dead. but it is not just a story of two best friends, it is also the story of the vietnam war, of the catholic church, of mothers, of belief in god, of school, of amateur theatre, of thomas hardy, like mr.stephen king says, "the book is a richly textured world you would be sad to leave." believe me I truly am.
