Perfect for the Monsoon!

As we all know in India, rain means pakoras. Of course I know how to make pakoras but thanks to AACHI BAJJI BONDA POWDER the snacks come out crisper and tastier. And the time spent making the batter is a reduced considerably.

I’ve bought this product at least twice now and am very happy with it. Perhaps, more than any other reason, it is the promise of Bonda which makes me weak at the knees. I have to confess Bonda is my favourite South Indian snack. I have not had a good Bonda for years.

The back of the packet has instructions:

Method of preparation

Bajji

Mix 200gm Aachi Bajji Bonda powder in 125ml water. Make slices of either onion, potato, banana, Brinjal, Cucumber or boiled egg or pappad. Dip the slices in the mixture and fry in edible oil. Now tasty bajjis are ready to serve. This powder can also be used to make cauliflower and onion pakkoda.

Bonda

Mix 200gm Aachi Bajji Bonda powder with finely chopped onions, green chilli, coriander leaves, curry leaves and water. Make small and fry in edible oil till golden brown. Now tasty Bonda is ready to serve

I find that I have to dilute the mixture a bit but that depends on how you like your pakodas.

I normally make pakodas with potato, onion, or green chili. Sometimes, I stuff some paneer in the chili. At the most I have also used brinjals. Perhaps I used cauliflower but it is not memorable.

As for the bonda, I have never risked it yet. My heart will break if the result is disappointing.

This powder contains "Gram flour, Rice flour, Chilli Powder, Salt, Sodium Bi-carbonate and compounded Asafoetida."

When I do not have this powder, I also use the above ingredients but I never use soda bi-carb.

Also, I usually put a pinch of ajwain, and some dhania, zeera powders.

Pakodas are best served with tomato sauce/ketchup and/or mint chutney. Before serving, some people like to slightly crush them and sprinkle chaat masala.

As such I’m not a big fan of Aachi products but this one I can’t resist buying.

So what are you waiting for? The monsoon is here! Make pakodas while the rain falls! And serve it with garma garam chai!
