This analysis of the news channel is based on 2 major sections. News and news-based programs. I did not consider advertising as I understand that all channels need advertising to survive.
News Section
Pros
The news presentation on Aaj Tak is really tez. More often than not, they are the first ones to break a news. They are really fast in doing this. Also the news presentation is crisp and in lucid hindi which even Tamil people can understand.
The show text headlines after every section and headlines after every 1/2 hour. This is quite helpful as it is understood that people don’t really watch 1 hour long news bulletin at a go.
The graphical reconstruction of major events like plane crashes, train derailment are really great and are unique to the channel. No other channel shows such stuff.
Cons
They deliver news with emotions. A news presenter should not let his/her emotions come on to the screen even if it is the death of a dear friend. I remember an instance when Madhavrao Scindia died the senior journalist who was reporting the event was in the verge of breaking down.
Secondly, nowadays they deliver contest details more than news. The scrolling headlines at the bottom of the screen contains sms nos. and contest questions more than headlines.
Moreover, the crisp news-presentation is giving away to dullness. The new crop of reporters recruited are in one word ---- DUMB.
News Based Programs
Pros
News based programs are less on this channel. Seedhi Baat and Vishesh are 2 of the very good programs. The programs does proper analysis of the situation or the subject before going to air. This is really commendable.
Moreover, the subjects chosen for the programs are really good and in context of the recent developments. In vishesh clippings from the news are also shown along with a commentary that’s really good.
Cons
Other than the 2 programs mentioned above, there are no good programs available. The channel really lacks in this area. Jurm is really boring and also the budget presentations and poll reports are cheap.
The admission help, Dakhile ki Daud focuses more on DU admissions rather than providing students details about career options. Even the vocational courses mentioned are those which are taught at DU.
lastly, the business news is really CRAP.
Conclusion
This is a news channel where you should watch only latest news. For other programs switch to NDTV or some other channel.
