I had watched this movie with a pure entertainment purpose fully Bollywood style in mind. and I was happy that its a feel good movie. I had not much expectations.
Its a story of a Shayli (an Indian village) born and brought up girl DIYA who is now a single mother and a dance choreographer in USA. She comes back to her village after 11 years because her mentor is dying. She is faced with challenge of re-building Ajanta theater which is on the verge of destruction in favor of a mall. She accept a challenge to perform a play with the local talent in just time of 2 months.
She accepts the same and overcomes all the hurdles in the way n win......She produces and choreographs a beautiful Laila Majnu story with the help of local people which includes local goonda, a tomboy, a hotelier, an insurance agent, a government officer etc.
Its very simple and predictable story.
What makes this movie a watchable movie is MADHURI DIXIT. Believe me I am no great fan of her. But yes she has a very good smile and good screen presence. She has pulled this whole movie on her shoulders without any male lead. Of course some side characters are strong and interesting, Buts its madam M who is the heart n soul of the movie. She has reduced her weight and got a very shapely figure. Of course some age show on her face but so what ??? in this story she is playing a 30+ woman. As this story is 11 years after she left the village with a forienger.
She glitters the screen with her presence, her dances, her acting and of course her smile.
The side characters that stand out
Kokanasen sharma: as usual she is a good actress to depend on. Whatout when she is playing a rough girl how she wipes her nose with hand ooooh so natural.... Yet she can show so much love for hero, she can act .
Kunal Kapoor: was ok not much for him to do as per script.
Ranvir Shory: I like this actor very much. He played his part beautifully, real majnu of madhuri.
Vinay pathak: he was good and it shows.
Sushmita mukharji: I noticed her in small role, I liked her.
Akhilendra Mishra: A typical goonda role but done with good restrain.
Divya dutta: shines in a small yet complex role of madhuri’s friend.
Irfaan Khan: He is a good actor but his role here was very limited but performed it to the T.
Girl: Who played Madhuri’s daughter has some funny one liners like when madhuri is rejected by her best friend whom she had described as the person who loves the most "mama u told this is person who loves u the most, is it?"
Last but Least in a way untypical but going by local politics situation when now adays young people are becoming MP, so not a typical Bollywood neta but a new age Bollywood neta who knows how to cook pizza : Akshaya Khanna in a special but extended role. He was cute.
Watch this movie if u r a madhuri fan n Bollywood fan.
The movie was typical Bollywood movie where all is well in the end. Meaning all the characters are happy in the end.
