Introduction
Govinda is the king of Bollywood Comedy. And when he joins with the person whom I rate as the best female comedian in Bollywood Juhi Chawla, then you are bound to have a hilarious movie at hand. So I was excited about Aamdhani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya starring these two stars.
The Plot
Jhumri (Juhi Chawla) and her husband Bheeshma (Govinda) move into a new neighbourhood. They immediate neighbours are three families. The husbands of these families work in a garage and are close friends. The three husbands (Johnny Lever, Chandrachud Singh and Vinay Anand) spend most of the money they earn to satisfy their own personal needs. The wives (Tabu, Ketki, Isha) find it difficult to make two ends meet with whatever is left of the salaries.
After lots of haggling the wives decide to go for jobs on the advices of Bheeshma and Jhumri. This pricks the self esteem of their husbands who promptly kick them out of their house. Again Bheeshma and Jhumri help them by letting them stay at their home. But the husbands keep haggling with their wives.
Do the wives manage to make their husbands see any sense? Or do they continue to make a nuisance of themselves? Check out this attempted comedy movie!!
Critics Viewpoint
When you look at the star cast and see such big names like Govinda, Juhi, Tabu and Johnny Lever you expect to see a laugh riot on the screen. Instead Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya turned out to be one of the worst comedy movies I have seen in the recent past.
For starters both Govinda and Juhi appear for hardly 20 minutes in the whole movie making them side stars. Even when they are on the screen their roles are so insipid that both these talented performers are totally wasted.
Next up the main performers i.e. the three husbands and the three wives. Of the cast, Johnny Lever is good in a couple of scenes but is overtly loud and slapstick in the rest of the movie. Chandrachud Singh simply seems to lack the funny bone and his comic timing is totally off. And Vinay Anand needs to understand that shouting is not comedy!!
Of the ladies, Tabu holds a bit of semblance but is again wasted considering the loads of talent that she has. Ketki seems to recreate the magic of her loud roles in TV serials in the movie and fails miserably only managing to tear your eardrums apart. Isha again does not seem to have a funny bone.
Most of the blame of this insipid movie has to be taken by the director K. Raghavendra Rao whose poor direction and complete lack of control over plot makes this a futile excercise in movie making.
The music given by Himesh Reshmaiya is also very poor and does not manage to add any value to the movie itself.
Meaning of the Title
Aamdhani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya is a famous hindi proverb meaning that Earning is 50 paise (pennies) whereas expenses is 1 Rupee (dollar) showing the mismatch between inflow and outflow.
Summary
All in all I would rate it as one of the worst comedies I have seen in the recent past.
I would give this movie a 0 star actually and as this option does not exist I would give it a 1 star rating.
