Aamir's best movies

Aamir Khan: The man brings forth a lot of associations to my mind. Youth, fun, aggression, talent, all with that touch of unmistakable sincerity that makes Aamir the loved actor /director that he is today.

I am going to use all those factors then, as a first filter to create a list of his best 5 movies.

The second filter, is an assessment of what is required to make a movie worth viewing in the first place?

  1. Honesty: The movie has to deliver what all the reviews promised(Bhoot was not an entertainer, was more of an urban eclectic flick!)

  2. Entertainment: The audience must not get bored

  3. Technical prowess: You know what I mean

  4. Oomph: Something, that makes the movie memorable

With these 2 filters, here goes:

  1. Lagaan: Amazing build up, not a soul knew it had to do about cricket(not the average lay soul, anyways), was honest about its patriotic, period drama setting, an entertainer from the first minute to the last. As for Oomph, oh, it had several. The strange bowling styles, the supressed pride of the Indian Maharaja, love between Aamir and a fair skinned one! Memorable indeed. It gets my number one rank, however purely for the number of’learnings’ the script writer and director have managed to pack in- management ishtyle. The traitor turned patriot Lakha, Kachra turning into a match winner, aamir leading from the front, courage in the face of adversity.turned Lagaan into a real number one

  2. Sarfarosh: Was touted little bit of a typical Bollywood entertainer, turned out t be much more than that! Perhaps aamir’s best acting performance(Lagaan notwithstanding) it had excellent cameos from Naseer and even Sonali Bendre!(surprise!). Music was strictly where necessary. A stunning screenplay and well written characters were strengths as well. Easily number two in Aamir’s top 5 list

  3. Jo Jeeta wohi Sikandar: So who cares if it borrowed from a lot of foreign films?! This one is in Aamir’s top 5 purely for its entertainment quotient. The most’fun’ film Bollywood has seen in a decade. And for once in her life, Ayesha Jhulka acted! Not to metion Pooja Bedi and Deepak Tijori. The music was to die for, and Mamik’s superlative performance added the icing to aamir’s cake. His acting, dialogue delivery and a sensational climax puts this one in my top 5 list.

  4. Dil Chahta Hai: Honest to a fault, a movie about three rich kids with not much to do, and a high brat quotient! Was exactly that, with Preeti offering great eye candy. The music, by the way, was brilliant.

  5. There ain’t no number 5, sadly I don’t think any of Aamir’s other movies stand up to these four.

So lemme know what you think, gentlemen and ladies!
