Aangan – Too bad to digest (Taste as well as Cost)

From a long time, I desperately wanted to have Maaki di Roti and Sarson da Saag after hearing about these delicacies in almost every Hindi serial. So, I decided to go to Aangan-The Punjabi Restaurant near Koramangala Kalyana Mantapa. After postponing the plan again and again, I was too excited to be there this Saturday.

The first look at the ambience of the restaurant drained my enthusiasm but I was too desperate to taste these Punjabi delicacies to allow the ambience effect my decision. It was too small a place and we(me and my husband) were allotted a table at the center, which was more inconvenient; but again I wanted to have the most discussed delicacies at any cost.

We ordered for Maaki di Roti, Sarson da Saag, Butter Milk, Jal Jeera, French Fries, and a non-vegetarian item(for my husband). The Butter Milk and Jal Jeera arrived first and tasted good though not great. The pudina chutney and the vinegar dipped onions were amazing to taste.but the worst was yet to come. Then the starters were served.

The look of the French Fries drained out my enthusiasm completely. Oil was oozing out and also the oil tasted stale. According to my hubby, even the non-vegetarian item was no good. We were struggling to finish the starters as we hoped that the main course would be good.

One bite of the roti and saag made me curse myself for wanting to come to this place. The roti was thick and hard like a cardboard and the saag was anything but tasty. I began to wonder whether Makki Roti and Sarson Saag is actually tastes like that or is that a specialty of Aangan(sarcasm intended). We ordered three rotis for the two of us and were tired and upset by the time we finished eating one each. We just prayed that they forget to serve the third one as we do not want to waste food. But the third one arrived promptly and we were helpless as this was too much for us to digest. I dropped my idea of ordering a dessert and was just desperate(again!), but this time to get out of this place.

The service was not good and the washroom is dirty. The bill came and I strongly feel that I have wasted Rs.450 of my hard-earned money. The prices on the menu card are too high for that kind of an ambience and also the taste. There is not even a single reason to justify the money they charge.

Then we went to Anand Sweets only a few meters away to have desserts and revive our mood.
