Oo Love triangles. Haven’t we got enough of them to be tormented one more time.
‘Ashiq Banaya Apne’( ABA) is directed by the 21 year old Aditya Datt and features the Chocolate pair Emraan-Tanushree along with Sonu Sood of Sheesha.
I was trying out means to summarise the story:
Shy guy and cool guy after hot girl> Shy guy and bad guy after stupid girl>Bad guy becomes good guy and shy guy becomes clever guy> Ultimately 2 stupid guys after 1 stupid girl
Even shorter summary of this triangle will be 0+0=0
I don’t know what on earth went wrong to feature Emraan and Sonu as college
students. Karan (Sonu) is a shy, kind hearted guy who falls for the gorgeous Sneha (Tanushree). Alas time and again the girl fails to understand his heart and falls for the ultra extrovert, happy go lucky Vicky(Emraan). Then emerges a comedy of confusions and accusations. Vicky falls from Sneha’s grace and she gets engaged to Karan. Karan all this while has been her guardian angel and is also instrumental in uniting her with her dad (Navin Nischol).
Tanushree Datta is completely wasted in this meaningless flick but wait a minute does she really have anything to be wasted?
The character she plays looks bold but inside fully empty and she fleets between her 2 lovers. She does not give any chance to Sonu Sood or Emraan to explain whenever some confusion arises.
Sonu Sood’s character suddenly becomes a villain and such a good villain who confesses everything without any compulsions.
Vicky( Emraan) carries drugs, sleeps with other girls and gets drunk yet wins the girl at the end. Though I guess his performance was good in Zeher, he should avoid accepting roles that are fast becoming too cliched.
Sonu Sood I guess will make a very good companion for another wooden actor, Ashmit Patel.
Tanushree, I would advice her to practice her acting in front of a mirror and control the ugly grimaces specially in the sob scenes. She also needs to learn voice modulation.
There are some serious flaws which will hit you. From the very beginning you will be confused as to what relation lies between Sonu and Tanushree- that if she is his girlfriend or not. There are no memorable scenes and the dialogues are very drab. The climax is also does not make any sense. Sneha’s character is also under developed. The drug issue also remains unresolved.
The only thing I liked was Himmesh Reshammiya’s Music
