Aashiqui Album (1990)

Aashiqui was released in mid-August 1990 and it was that album that firstly launched Nadeem-Shravan (then newcomers) into stardom and secondly great singer, Kumar-Sanu`s first mega-hit musical album. I should say that they are my best music directors... and I even say that to my friends since a long time now... Aashiqui was released under Gulshan Kumar`s, T-Series. It received so much recognition musically because of the super success the film. But... the actors, I would prefer not to comment on them and especially the screenplay of such melodious songs should have been much better, in my point of view... (It`s a shame on that part)

The first track on my CD is popular “Jaane Jigar Janeman” it is very good but I think it works better because of Sameer’s excellently romantic lyrics which provides the accurate rhythm to the effect of the music on Nadeem-Shravan’s part. The song is repeated twice. -But there is no difference to my ear of the songs...

“Main Duniya Bhula Doonga” is the second song of the album with still a meaningful romantic-styled song with Kumar Sanu. The music is a little slower here but the two singers are good in preventing their voices from sounding too redundant. The verses are showered with wonderful instrumentation.

I can’t really pinpoint the best song of the soundtrack because all of the songs are melodious and everyone as you may doesn`t dance to the same tune, but the title track (being ironically third in this great album), “Bas Ek Sanam Chahiye” would certainly the biggest of the contenders here. There are two versions quite different this time. A male by Kumar Sanu and a female by Anuradha Paudwal...Each versions holds excellent singing by both singers. Perfect orchestration and drum use all contribute to the beautiful songs. The sound too is superb on my CD. And that is why I have added another star on my review for SOUND! Though these types of musical bases can still be heard in few of N-S’s songs now, this song blends it all together sounding much better than the numbers they have been giving us recently. Sameer`s work is perfect here... but most of his recent songs have been brainwashing people... (Like Hungama for instance)

A slower and heavier tune, “Nazar Ki Samne” is a song highly filled with jhankar. But don`t worry because it is handled in very well by the music composers . There is some excellent singing by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal.

The second contender for being number one would be my best song in the album, “Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana”. Starting off much more conventionally than all of the other tunes on the soundtrack, the tune is more techno (or electronic) styled (it was released thirteen years ago, so that is not much saying now), This song is written by Rani Mallik. The singers sing beautifully, but Sanu tends to hit the nasal portions at times. -It`s not the question that it`s disgusting but rather annoying as you can`t follow the rythm of the music properly, and it disconcentrates you a bit.

Udit Narayan’s only contribution to the soundtrack is “Mera Dil Tere Liye” ... It doesn’t get as much notice as the other songs because it is a wordy tune. It carries some beautiful music orchestration, but some parts carry the Nazar Ki Samne music. In other words, it is not that ORIGINAL in terms of music and does not (how should I tell you that), stand out as much as the other songs of this album.

“Tu Meri Zindagi Hai” is a ghazal styled number which sung by Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal. It is short and carries some some very good lyrics here too.

The last two songs are “Dil Ka Alaam” (penned by Madan Paal) and “Ab Tere Bin Jee Lenge Hum” which are the less popular and fovourite songs on the soundtracks, to say the least. However, they are melodious songs. The first one is a LOVE-AT-FIRST-SIGHT and the second an INEBRIATED tune...

This album is surely a musical gem... I would say the best during the past decade!

A MUST BUY!
