Nana Patekar all the way

I set out to watch this movie because my friends told me its a good movie. I was a little aphrensive in the beginning because I was getting fed up shooting, underworld stories, cops etc etc.

Yet Nana Patekar was one of my favourite actors and Ram Gopal Verma one of my favourite film-makers. His factory usually comes with good products and this time the director was Shimit Amin. Anyway I thought this risk was worth taking and watched the movie. And was I disappointed??...no way..It was a good movie with very good performances by Nana Pateker, Revathi, the don (i forgot his name) and Yashpal Sharma.

I heard this movie is about Inspector Daya Nayak and even the title supported it. After I see the movie I dont think it is related to Daya Nayak. Anyways Ram Gopal Verma has this habit of hyping up films relating it to real life characters and weaving his own plot in the movie. This was the same thing that happened in Company. So Ab Tak Chappan adorns the story of Daya Nayak in the beginning and then drifts apart to tell its own story. Without wasting much time lets get to the plot of the movie...

Nana Patekar(Sadhu Agashe) plays the character of touch encounter specialist. He is the head of the dept which is specially for encounters to tackle underworld criminals. The people who support him in this task are Yashpal Sharma(Imtiaz) and Nakul Vaid. Yashpal Sharma is jealous that Nana is getting all the credits for the good work of the dept. The first half of the movie involves how this team goes about its activities killing criminals ruthlessly.

Story takes a upswing when Nana’s wife Revathi is killed and Nana is broken. Nana tried to find out who is behind the killing of his wife and ends up killing a corporator. This forces him to resign the job and join the underworld as the police is behind him now. What follows then is a gripping climax which is not be missed. The climax is unprecedented and catches you off-guard.

Performances wise Nana is first-rate. The emotions he displays when he loses Revathi.. as a tough cop is apt. He is ably supported by all the co-stars. I sometimes wonders why doesn’t Nana do more movies?? Another classic production from Ram Gopal Verma. Last but not least Shimit Amin deserves credit for making a good movie.
