I had an ABN AMRO Bank’s Master Card. This was of course before the time; it was taken over by RBS. I took that card a year back, of course under the sales pressure from a sales representative. While selling me that card the credit card sales representative told me that I don’t have to pay any annual fees (or any sort of fees for that matter) ever for the card. However, in the statement sent to me, I was charged the annual fees for the add-on card and subsequently in the next statement I was charged the annual fees for the card. After talking to the customer services representative, I had destroyed the cards (both the original and the add-on) and dropped it along with an application requesting the closure of the add-on card account in the cheque drop box of an ATM of the Bank. There were no other dues on the card.
I had clearly stated that I want the Bank to close the card account completely as I was not interested in maintaining the account by paying annual fees. I also wanted the Bank to reverse the annual fees charged in advance to my latest statement. However, the Bank did not do so and stated calling me and asked me to pay the forced dues. I have refused to do so, as I have already destroyed and returned the card.
Despite repeated reminders the Bank didn’t close the account. Then for several months the Bank continued to send me statements adding interest on their supposed dues giving me unnecessary mental agony. Eventually, after six months a lady representative called me confirming that they would be closing the account.
This entire episode was a matter of mental torture to me.
