I wanted to transfer some EURO funds from abroad to the branch in Delhi. I wrote to the NRI Services Manager in Delhi Connaught Place branch. Got the SWIFT codes and Branch details.
Transferred the money over internet banking from abroad. Sent the transaction details as reminder to NRI Services Manager in Delhi. No reply till next working day.
Comes a reply after 2 days that I should transfer the moeny to Mumbai branch and not Delhi. I replied that money has been sent. No more communication.
Money did not reach India for next 15 days. My bank aboad told me that money has been returned since SWIFT account numbers for Delhi Branch do not exist. Checked with ABN AMRO. Forwarded the details to NRI Services Manager in Delhi.
Came the reply after a week apologising that SWIFT codes account for ABN AMRO Delhi have been cancelled.
NRI SErvices Manager working for Delhi branch does not know that SWIFT codes for same branch were cancelled. A PDF document still available on web site of bank on day of this reply stated still the SWIFT codes for ABN AMRO Delhi. It is still the same document existing on internet site ABNAMRO.CO.IN after 5 months almost.
Interest rates for NRE + FCNR deposits were quoted very high on web site of the bank. A small detail at very end of page stated that interest rates were dated back by almost months. Nobody removed it or updated it. Obviously if one does not read every part of the web site page stating these interest rates then one if likely to think that bank is offering high interest rates more than other Indian banks.
Interest rate link does not work today at web site of bank in India
Removed my funds after this mess.
