Best Value for Money Laptop (Acer 4930)

Just thought of reviewing Acer Laptop, which I believe is the most value for money middle range laptop available now.

Flashback:

The story about my Laptop shopping unfolds two years back, when I was entrusted by a parent, the responsibility to choose a laptop for their son who was planning for his MBA studies.

He needed a medium range laptop(between 30K-40K), just to do MS office stuff/business apps/regular browsing and to hear songs occasionally. I did an extensive search for the most optimum laptop for him. As his budget was around 35K, we zeroed in on Acer Aspire Laptop, which was really good, both in design and performance and it costed around 33K.

Now he is completing the studies and knows more about Laptop than me and would tell me always that his laptop is really worth the money and has not caused any trouble till now.(Thank God!)

At Present:

Recently my friend(a budding architect), in Bangalore told me to choose a Laptop for him. He needed a value for money laptop(again the same) around 40k, play with graphics and want to do the regular stuffs –MS office/browsing/Songs/Movies. After chatting with him for sometime, I came to know that he wanted a laptop with all the “best things” –good design/best performance and that too for 40K(I know he is dreaming something which he is not going to get!).

Though Acer was in my mind, I just checked with other brands such as Dell, Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Lenovo and Sony. We both went to all these showrooms, talked to people who use these brands, read product reviews in Net.

Acer 4930 – We found that the Acer has improved a lot. They offer good value for money laptop with best specs. It has good user friendly keys.

Though design wise, I felt that the older Acer’s were much slimmer and good looking. If you are leaving the looks aside, this is a very good laptop for almost all who needs the best for around 40K.Core 2 Duo T5800 2GHz processor, 2GB Memory(extended to 4GB), 160GB Hard Disk DVD-RW, 14.1-inch CrystalBrite panel, Integrated Intel GPU or discrete Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS graphics card Fingerprint Reader HDMI interface Dolby Digital Home theatre system surround sound…etc. Please ‘google’ for complete specs…lot to say

It had good graphics as well as HDMI port to connect to Plasma’s and similar stuff for presentation. The dealer upgraded the RAM to 4GB at no extra cost and gave us free optical mouse, pen drive, laptop bag, Windows Vista(installed) and extended warranty for 3 years …all this for Rs.34000.

A good deal…right!Though the looks were not that good, my friend was happy with the price and specs.Just to make up his mind, I said …”A happy man buys the Laptop he loves whereas a happier man loves the Laptop he buys! “…some old saying which I modified for that occasion.

I recommended the same laptop to another friend yesterday…I would be happy if Acer gives me some commission for this! And one more thing, while buying Acer, please buy from an Authorized Acer dealers - classified as Acer Malls and Acer Points.

Don’t buy from Electronics Shopping Malls as they may not give discounts or freebies or free upgrades. Acer is an international brands and has good customer care(anyway, not the best). After Acer, I found Toshiba the next best choice. Now the customer care is handled by Toshiba. Earlier it was taken care by HCL.

At last, one open secret…. I don’t own a laptop as I am very much happy with my Old desktop and no other system can beat its user friendliness.

Cheers!
