Maybe it should be retitled “Edge of Yesterday.”
Director Doug Liman has revealed that “Edge of Tomorrow 2” will in fact be a prequel to the Tom Cruise-Emily Blunt time-bending action hit, rather than a sequel.
“That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing, and it’s because first of all the story is so amazing — much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film — and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel, ” Liman said in an interview with Collider.

The original “Edge of Tomorrow” took the tried and tested Cruise action hero formula and flipped it on its head. In the film, Cruise played a cowardly public affairs officer who was trained and beaten up over and over again by Blunt’s character in a time warp of ass-kicking.
