Gandhinagar -Learning to survive

I was surprised when I did not find a single revu about Gandhinagar The Capital of Gujarat on MS .I decided to break this monotony .When I try to figure out the reasons for gandhinagar not being talked , written or imagined they  are  far too many ..

Before I get into  critiquel  mode let me give you some bakground information  about the **supposed **city  ( if I may call it ). The city came into being in 1970 when the capital of Gujarat was  shifted from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. It is named after our very own Bapu Mahatma gandhi and is located suitably  at some 25 km from Ahmedabad on the bank of river Sabarmati.the city has numerous govenment offices like any other capital city to name a few GSPC, GIDC and many more.Few people know that Gandhingar boasts of the finest educational  institiutes in india like National Institiue of design (NID), National Institiute of Fashoin Technology ( NIFT), Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information  and communication Technology (DAIICT), National Law School Of Indian University (NLSIU). and upcoming Pandit Deen Dayal Petroleum University (PDPU) It also houses many renowned  reserach institiutes like indian institute of Plasma Research  (IPR)and and Indian Institute of Advanced research(IIAR). As far as tourist attractions are concerned i can mention Only akshardham temple ( remember terrorist attack in 2002).

It is  very well planned , the entire  city is divided in 30 sectors and a roundabout at every 250 meters. It has broad roads and trees flanking on either side completely a driver’s delight . it also has to it s credit the honour of being Asia’s Greenest city. With a polpulation of Over 1.5 lac as per 2001 Census , it is the most peacful city I ever came across !!! phew  let me take  a breadth ..

Am I sounding like a real estate developer  marketing a  township?? nope ..  it is just the other way round... it is  carrying more weight that it can lift .. let us figure out how

**Infrastructure** : for this I like to use  the electoral jargon **Bijli , Sadak , Pani .**  no issues about the sadak and pani , but **bijli on sadak** is really a  a problem I mean here the poor illumination of streets , At times  it makes you  believe that you are living in Pre electrified India and can  scare the bravest soul on earth  and that too in a state where the municipal corporation and electricity board claim to be the most lucrative organizations. The **Vibrant Gujarat campaign**  of Mr Modi has gone for a six .

**Public Transport** : it is virtually absent but for some  private rickshaws , shared rickshaws are a rarity.though one does see **GSRTC buses** plying regularly but having spent nearly seven months I never boarded one.

**Well Planned **  It is said to be the second most **well planned** city after Chandigarh .Planned  to the extent of being inconvenient. it is hard to find a tea lorry on a public holiday. Every amenity has a definite place and u ll not find any change in this arrangement  no matter the world outside has turned topsy turvy .For instance all the banks and hotels are in sector 16 , shopping complex in sector, 21 and commercial complexes in sector 11. I sometimes i feel that the planner of the city had a  high degree of aversion to Ambiguity  a trait that is not desirable in todays unpredictable times ,

**Peaceful City**  It is very peaceful city with negligible crime police wallah have a good time doing nothing. ideal for those who suffer from **Asthama **, **hypertension **and **hearing impairment**.

Also **Claustrophobics** and **retired people** will feel like heaven .To someone who hails from a crowdy North indian town it  appears as if a **curfew** has been imposed and during night it is  perfect for shooting a **ramsay flick

**

It is not that I had a bitter argument with my boss that I am spewing venom, but I am genuinely interested in the well being of  those who are planning to stay in this place by choice or compulsion (like me )

**Here are some

Own your vehicle-**the moment u touch ground Zero , get a vehicle as u simply can not rely on the public transport .

**Stay connected** : Since there is not much to do after office hours , net surfing is one thing you can do to obviate the boredom.

**Look Ahmedabad** : Find friends and relatives in AHMD if  u dont have befriend some and spend weekend with them

i guess it is enough from me ,  a lot can be invented , tried and tested ...
