I first came to know about Airtel broadband when they conducted a demonstration in my housing society (in Pune). It looked interesting, and since I’d heard horror stories about the performance and service of BSNL
’s broadband, I went in for it.
As an introductory offer they waived off the installation charges and deposit. I signed up for the Rs. 1000 per month unlimited usage plan (256 kpbs). There were some problems initially, as they took 1 week to get it installed, but they were very courteous about the whole matter and anyway it was not their fault (the secretary of the building was not willing to give permission to install the cabling).
So far the performance has been excellent. In over 5 months, I have had only one outage which lasted for about 2 hours. The speed has been very consistent and fast. I download about 6-8GB per month.
I was worried about the customer service that I would receive, as the quality of the staff for Airtel mobile was not satisfactory. Apparently, Airtel Broadband has a different call center, staffed with extremely helpful people. All my questions and issues have been quickly resolved.
I would also like to mention that since several people in our housing society have taken Airtel connections, Airtel has installed an internal telecom system for the society free of cost. :-)
One small warning: I receive excellent connection speeds, but performance of other connections may vary depending on the distance to the exchange (I live 200 meters from Airtel’s exchange).
