I subscribed to Airtel Internet service on February 2008. I am very happy with the connection till now. No service issues so far, so so good is the connection.
Had little bit of issues while installing. I am living in Chennai City (Kodambakkam) in a very good residential area. But they told they do not have any underground cabling in my street on the desired side. So need to install the Demarc (outside box) inside our premises. Since I live in a rented house I had to convince my landlord and he was advising me to take BSNL. Since I got info from my friends that Airtel service is far better than Hathway and BSNL. One of my frnds were using Hathway. He told me that sometimes it will have less speed at peak hours since its a Cable connection. Two of my frnds were using Airtel limited connection. So I thought I will go with Airtel since they told the service is good. Especially the service guarantee they provide.
Finally landlord was convinced. But to my surprise they told they can do a overhead connection since the opposite apartment had a Demarc [wasted my time :) ]. They did so and told will work fine and box will be fitted later, not fitted yet though The wiring guy came. Did the job fast, but he was too fast that he didnt do in the way I wanted, I mean internal wiring. I had to rewire it on my own expense later to keep the modem in a convenient and accessible place. Anyway that was done. Service Engg came and got connection almost immediately. They didnt give any manual or instructions CD and told not required at all. I expected that they will atleast give a manual.
The modem and phone are Beetel make.
Connection is very reliable and good till now. Dont know about the response and resolution time of Customer Service and Technicians if anything happens. For one of my frnd they did it within one day when he lost connection and credited for the outage.
I took an unlimited connection and the speed they offered was 256 Kbps. Modem was free, Rs 500 for installation and Rs 750 p.m. The phone is free (incoming) [Actually Airtel Internet is a phone connection, along with they are giving the internet :) ]. I got an offer for 3 numbers.
Calls to 1 local airtel number free, Calls to one STD number (any company) at Rs 0.50, and calls to one ISD number at 30% reduction.
I usually get a Download speed of 200~300 Kbps and a Upload speed of 150~200 Kbps (Rarely I have seen this as 180 Kbps and 130 Kbps).
