I have taken Airtel GPRS connection on my mobile. Monthly Rs.399/- is charaged as rental. While taking connection the executive told me that whenever you need connection send AGPRS as SMS to 121. and When you dont want connection send DGPRS to 121. and you will be charged rent only on daily basis. But AGPRS and DGPRS never worked. Even after sending DGPRS to 121 it never got de-activated.
The problem I faced:
When I send AGPRS to 121, it never activated. I called customer care and asked to acitvate. They told it will take 4 hours to activate. After 4 hours I called again. and again same reply(another 4 hours). I kept calling them 3 days continuosly to get it activated first time.
Then, as the customer care told, me when I stopped using GPRS, I send then DGPRS to 121. I thought that GPRS got deactivated that time.
But in my bill I am charged full Rs.399/- . When I called customer care, they told that my GPRS never got deactivated.
In a month only 5-6 days I used the connection and I paid Rs.399.
This is a very clear cheating from AirTel.
I think AirTel GPRS works this way only with post-paid connection. They find it easy to cheat post paid customers, as we cannot know whether its active or not active till our bill comes.
If you use postpaid, Never ever take AirTel GPRS connection, if you dont want to get Cheated.
In pre-paid atleast you can know everyday when your balance goes whether its active or not.
Qualtity
Quality of the connection is very very poor. The connection is not even continuous. If you go online in Gtalk or MSN or yahoo, your online status will just be jiggling between online and offlien. ie. the connections does not stay for even 5 mins continuously. Also, its very slow. you cannot even down load a 1 MB file. Because inbetween connection will be timed out.
