I have been an Airtel customer almost since they started service. Since I live outside India, I have a postpaid telephone number, the dues that were automatically settled from my bank account.
I subscribed to their data package during my visit to India in the summer of 2015. I made a few other trips to India subsequently where I used the data package.
In October 2015, I requested through the web to discontinue my data package. That is where my problem started. In trying to execute the request, they tried to reach me. Since I did not switch on the phone in my overseas location, they notified me about the same via email. I asked them to take the email confirmation from me to terminate the data package service.
Know what, they have terminated my phone connection.
I am trying to make the intellectually challenged customer support in Airtel understand that this was entirely their fault and they have to restore my phone number. I have a hefty international roaming advance paid and which is being held by Airtel.
There is a refusal to read emails, understand what has gone wrong etc. I have been asking for escalation points which also has not been provided. I have written an email to the appellate authority in TN, who has also been responding without reading or understanding what has gone wrong. I am being advised to apply for a new connection for a mistake committed by Airtel customer support.
You can image the number of places where I have to go and update the mobile number change if I have to. As everyone knows, additional authentication for banking is via mobile phones.
I hope someone sensible from Airtel will read this and put an end to my misery.
