This is my 2 cents on Aks.Not that it counts in any way.But I thought I might as
well give it.So here goes.
Aks is slick and stylish. There is no doubt about that.In that respect it
compares well even to Hollywood movies. But thats about it.In the end, it becomes
a case of too much style, too less substance. The movie could have been great, but
the director loses track somewhere down the line.
The cast is good.Amitabh, Manoj Bajpai, Nandita Das and Raveena all give
powerhouse performances. But then, when the roles are etchy, what can good actors
do?
The film has its strong points. The cinematography is damn good. The basic plot
showing the battle between good and evil within oneself is good (even though it
is definitely inspired by Fallen). As I said, the performances are good.
But the movie could definitely have done wih a better script. The script doesnt
hold out.It doesnt give you anything to think about. And it isnt
entertaining. It should have atleast been one of the two.It ends being a hotch
potch mixture somewhere in between.I heard that Rakesh Mehra wrote it in just 2
days.It definitely figures.
And in the rediff.com review they mention that the film sends chills down your
spine.Well, anyone who has seen even one good psychological thriller wont be
even a wee bit scared, believe me.At one level, the director is trying to make a
psychological thriller while you find his promos pointing to an action oriented
film (many thought it was inspired by Face/Off).I wonder why. Also, the promos
were so good that they raised my expectations like anything. That made it even
worse. And finally, why did the dialog which Manoj Bajpai repeats throughout the
film have to be so long. You cant keep such long punch lines. No one listens to
them. Its boring, to say the least. And very irritating too.
Final word : Dont keep too many expectations from the film, and you wont be
disappointed. The film is decent. You might even enjoy it.
