Nightmare!

Making a suspense thriller has always been an arduous task. Not only do the makers have to make sure that once the beans are spilled, the fizz doesn’t die down, but also have to look minutely into details and logic as a genre like this involves reasoning, proofs and investigations.

In the case of Aksar, the first aspect is taken care of but as far as the second aspect [logic] is concerned, the film has a few threads hanging loose and coupled with a drab screenplay and predictable twists and turn, not to mention the climax, Aksar, turns out to be a nightmarish experience!

Ricky (Emraan Hashmi) is a famous photographer, who also has an infamous reputation of being a lady-killer. Heavily under debt due to his own actions, Ricky’s saviour comes in the form of Rajveer Singh (Dino Morea) who pays him a whopping amount, buys off all his photographs and helps Ricky repay his loans.

Rajveer then offers Ricky a deal – a massive amount to come to London and seduce his wife Sheena (Udita Goswami). Reason? He’s stuck in an unhappy marriage and wants his wife to leave him.

Ricky agrees and succeeds in his mission when Sheena falls in love with him. The problem is that she’s not willing to leave Rajveer though. The film takes a new turn when Ricky lands up dead under mysterious circumstances and the drama thickens.

AKSAR suffers because director seems completely ill at ease handling a sex thriller. The story he has opted for had scope for a lot of drama, but the writing is so predictable that the viewer can actually guess what the next sequence would be like. Even the dialogues are outright predictable. The director’s intentions get further diluted because the screenplay writing has loopholes aplenty. In fact, several questions remain unanswered till the very end.

Of the performances, Udita does make an effort to enact her part with conviction. Emraan does not impress, partly due to a half-baked characterisation. Dino Morea is a complete miscast. Though the actor shows improvement in a few sequences, he just doesn’t look the character he’s been asked to portray.Tara is just about okay.

Besides a faulty script, musical score does precious little to elevate matters. The tunes sound the same all through. Moreover, most songs pop up at regular intervals, whether needed or not.

On the whole, Aksar is a complete letdown. At the box-office, it just won’t work!
