Talented actor who's had some bad luck

I was surprised to see that there weren’t so many reviews over Akshaye Khanna here, but I felt I like doing a write up on Mr. Khanna, because I feel that he’s one of the most talented actors in Bollywood today- amongst the newer generation of actors.  The problem is that box office has never been his best friend and many of his movies have not done as well through his 10 year career graph. Its only after 2001 that Akshaye’s movies became somewhat more credible as opposed to what he was doing earlier. Also his hair problems have worked against him getting more offers from other directors. There’s certainly no doubt about that because Bollywood is a beauty conscious industry as well( yes unfortunately that’s the way it is).

*Unique

*One thing I really like about Akshaye is that he has added a certain level of spark in all his performances. You just can’t get bored watching him. Even in a bad movie, Akshaye still performs really well as evident in the recent Naqaab or a movie like Aap Ki Khatir by the Darshan brothers where actors usually are either too over the top and annoying. Akshaye’s best performances came from movies like Border, Humraaz,

Deewangee, Aa ab Laut Chalen, Dil Chahta Hai, Doli Saja Ke Rakhna,

Hungama, and Aap Ki Khatir. He was good in his other films too, but

these movies potrayed his acting abilities to the fullest. Even in Salaam e Ishq despite having an odd character, he stood out amongst 10 other stars which is superb. He even held his own against a superstar like Madhuri in the horrible Mohabbat,  and big names like Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt, and Jackie Shroff in Border. This is the sign of what a great actor is- some one who can stand out in a crowd and also someone who is consistenly good overall with their performances.

*Father vs. Son

*I also feel that he has surpassed Vinod Khanna in terms of acting. A lot of people may disagree here, but I really think Akshaye has surpassed his dad as an actor. He’s far more natural than him and Vinod was a good actor too, but sometimes his performances came across as being forced- like he was trying too hard. With Akshaye, its more like effortless.

*Looks

*I think he’s a handsome guy- he’s got a very cute smile.

*Ranking amongst his contemporaries

*In my opinion I feel that he’s a far superior actor in comparison to other actors like Abhishek, Hrithik, Vivek, John, Bobby, etc. He’s also quite consistant with giving good performances.

*Upcoming movies

*Gandhi my Father looks like a good movie. Its good to see Akshaye get such a role like this because he’s never gotten one like that before. He’s also coming in Abbas Mustan’s Race as well, and I’m not having a lot of hopes with that because Abbas Mustan are just not in form also its being produced by the copy cat Taurani Brothers who made the crapfest Naqaab. He also has a special apperance in the Madhuri Dixit starrer Aaja Nachle under Yashraj, which won’t really do anything for him except maybe get the Yashraj camp to notice him. I also hear that he has a movie with Arshad Warsi and Amrita Rao which Anil Kapoor’s is producing- apparently a comedy and its called Shortcut.
