Alag not only supplies the viewer with an undercurrent of emotions but is also great stimulation about the way our world works and how we can make this little planet a better place, in other words, an eye opener.
The film begins with an investigation where police investigates the death of an elderly rural resident. They discover his teenage son[Akshay Kapoor] living in the basement. Raised by his father, he has experienced the world only through books, never leaving the family farm. He is sent to a state home for boys where he has trouble fitting in socially. His odd appearance and unusual abilities cause the small town residents to fear and ridicule him. However, not all are afraid. Some begin to view his potential and gifts with wonderment.
Harassed by classmates who wont accept his shocking appearance.Seeing the real face of the world, brutal, tough and ugly, his only wish is to get back home.
But the cruel taunts stop when he displays a mysterious power that allows him to do incredible things. This phenomenon changes the lives of all those around him in ways they never could have imagined.
This is an emotionally heavy and very affecting film that gets by on the strength of its performances. Its awfully hard not to keep from tearing up, especially with such a moving story .Although not completely believable, a compelling look at a very unique human being who cant be understood by the world around him. Sad but true to the idea that us humans will always hold prejudice against those who are different than us
You would think that a guy who has lived all his life in a basement would be incredibly child-like and naive about the ways of the world. Thankfully, his father had enough books on the family farm to keep the intellect of a super-genius busy.
Akshay Kapoor is great as Teja. He does a very good job with a difficult role. Most scenes are well created and almost every time touching, but the ending seemed to me a bit below expectations.
Overall, its earnest, mostly appealing and deeply affecting. Whatever points I may have to deduct for its flaws are more than made up for by the main actors.
