Wo muqaddar ka sikander !

Alexandria or Al-Sikandariyya is a waterfront city founded by...you guessed it-Alexander the Great .

We reached Alexandria in about 2.5 hours by road from Cairo.Being quite close you can make it a day trip, leave early in the morning and be back the same night or stay over. The choice is yours. We had our lunch in a place near the citadel. They serve a platter of fish caught fresh from the Mediterranean sea with vegetable salad and a number of side dishes. For 80-90 pounds a plate its a little expensive but what the hell, you don’t go to Egypt everyday.I bought a starfish for 2 pounds, they sell them by the dozens and a good bargain could get you one for a single pound(as I learnt later).

You can visit the Citadel & the library(we gave it a miss). But the real deal is-The Catacombs of Kom-ash-Shuqqafa, these are Roman burial places of the dead, where the bodies were lowered in a rotunda and the doorways are guarded by carvings of Anubis, God of the Dead.I am sure theres no better place to film a spooky movie, the atmosphere is creepy but its the most awesome experience .Al-Sikandariyya is the place the rich sheikh families go to cool off in the summer and it can get considerably expensive when along with international tourists the local populace fuels the tourism crowd. We went in December so it was fine.
