As we all know Allahabad University is one of the oldest universities in India. It was also called the Oxford of the East.
Allahabad University offers a wide range of courses ranging from the normal bachelor courses in Arts, Science and Commerce to the professional courses. It has a really vast campus and a separate campus for the commerce students where courses such as Bachelors in commerce(B. Com) and Masters in Commerce(M. Com) and Masters in Business Administration(M.B.A.)courses are being run. It also has a very big library. Earlier it was not a central university but few years back it became a central university.
The admission process in this university is by appearing for the entrance tests conducted for various courses by the university. Tests are a bit tough. The fees structure is reasonable for traditional courses but it is high for the professional courses.
If you get an admission in this university then dont think you are lucky as the marking system in exams is really strict which I think is a negative point. You study really hard but you could hardly cross the 65% or 68%.
Second thing which I really dislike about this university is that regular classes for all the subjects are not held. It all depends in the professors, if they want then only classes are held. I myself is also a Allahabad University passout. So I have experienced all this.
Third problem is before the elections of the university there are a lot of tensions in the campus. All the participants are busy promoting themselves and in this they also have fight with their competitors. So sometimes university has to be closed for a few days. This really affects the studies of those students who have come here to study from other cities or villages.
I did my graduation and post graduation in commerce so I had faced all these situations. So I think it no more remains the Oxford of the east.
