Ally McBeal...This is honestly the funniest programme I have ever seen - and the greatest thing about it is that the humour is so intelligent. The show relates the life of Ally McBeal (hence the title!) a 20-something lawyer who just wants to find a man and settle down. Trouble is things dont always work out that way: weve had counselling, nervousness, lesbianism, and, of course, that strange hallucinatory dancing baby..
More like a soap than a real sitcom, the show is by turns hysterically funny and downright depressing; you gain an affinity with the characters very quickly indeed, and I for one am always left wanting more. There are a host of supporting characters: quirky John Cage, Elaine the bright and bouncy secretary, hard-nosed Ling, the girlfriend of money-spinning Richard Fish who with Cage owns the law firm where Ally works.. every character has its own little subplots and intrigue associated with it.
Even if you dont usually like this sort of thing, then I would recommend giving this a go. Its different; its intelligent; its well-written; and those are rare qualities in TV today.
