So true, almost famous. The movie handles the struggle of a band on the edge of fame and money. A suburbanite named William (Patrick Fugit), driven by his endless passion for music, gets the opportunity to write an article for the Rolling Stone Magazine. His possibilities as a writer and young music critic where limited, he wrote for a small regional magazine called CREAM, therefore this opportunity was a chance of a lifetime. He had to join the band Stillwater and travel with them throughout the U.S. Whilst the band would enjoy bandaids and the occasional Acid, William would sit somewhere and tranquilly write notes about the bands attitude towards music and towards life. Just once William had to stop his research and got overwhelmed by three sweet girls who eventually took his virginity. As the tour went on William came to know a smart and very mystical bandaid, Penny Lane. After alot of parties and alot of in depth talks with Penny Lane the young writer lost his heart and fell deeply in love with the girl who unfortunately for him had an affair with one of the bandmembers, Russell. Drugs and the endless freedom took overhand and forced Russell to maltreat Penny Lane in a simple game of poker. Russell had a wife waiting for him in New York, unforunately for Penny. She found out during a stay in New York and eventually lost her mind. William finds her in a hotel room extremely drunk and nearly unconcious. When William conveys his attraction and love to Penny Lane she blacked out, a doctor had to rescue her and get her out of the near-death experience. William returns to the Rolling Stone and brings them his completed article, after a couple of misunderstandings Stillwater confirms the sad truth that he conveys in his article.
A great movie for people who cherish the spirit and magic of the late sixties early seventies. The regisseur has done a great job on projecting the ideals of that time. I really enjoyed the Soundtrack, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Cat Stevens are all good ways to go when choosing soundtracks. Unfortunately the band Stillwater did not reach a good level of fame because the music theyve played is definitely something everybody should hear.
